About Leonie

Dr Leonie Aitken has been in general practice in Sydney since 1987 as a family physician and homoeopath. and  has undergone her own individual and group therapy process.

She has been doing individual counselling since 1997, completing a 2 year training course in counselling and group therapy, and has done several group leadership training courses. Since October 2000, she has also run a weekly group therapy program, and undergoes regular supervision.

Since developing a focus on the "here and now" in therapy, she has noticed how dynamic and powerful this approach is, and enjoys seeing clients flourish and grow. Relationship issues, self-esteem, grief, addictions, anxiety, and depression, are just some of the situations she has worked with extensively over the years. 

About Trevor

Trevor Armitage has been practising as a group therapist since 2003, and as a individual counsellor since 2005. He brings experience and learning from his own personal therapeutic journey and his facilitation of men's support groups.

His training qualifications include a certificate in group leadership from the Institute of Group Leaders (IGL) and a Graduate Diploma of Counselling and Psychotherapy from Jansen Newman institute. He is a member of the Counsellors and Psychotherapists Association (CAPA), and under goes regular supervision.

His passion is working with clients in the "here & now",  in order to help them improve their relationships, to create intimacy, build self esteem and resilience, and deal with depression and addictions. Men's issues, parenting difficulties, and retraining / career changes are also key areas of interest. 

Leonie and Trevor are both on the Faculty of the Jansen Newman Institute and run therapy groups for the students. They have also presented workshops on group therapy and the use of the "here and now" in groups for the Institute of Group Leaders, and the CAPA Conference.

Trevor and Leonie enjoy a loving marriage, working day by day on creating intimacy and respecting each others' differences.
