How do I know how long I will need to be in therapy?

Short term counselling is available for resolution of specific problems. Longer term psychotherapy is for more in-depth exploration of underlying patterns and history, aiming to effect change at a deep level. This can be discussed during the free phone consultation.

What would be best form of therapy? Individual Counselling or Group Therapy?

Crisis situations and some mental health issues are usually best dealt with in individual therapy, whereas most other needs can be addressed in either individual or group therapy. The best choice for you can be discussed in the free consultation session.

How long will it take for me to make the changes I desire?

How long it takes to make changes depends on the nature of change and the level of commitment clients make to the work required. This is something we would touch on in our introductory telephone call and/or in early sessions. Some changes are quite specific and goal-orientated and are fairly easy to apply to a timeline. Other changes, which have to do with developing the self, generally take longer since we have to “unlearn” many of our ingrained behaviours and beliefs before we can learn and begin to practise a new way of being and relating.

Is what I share in sessions kept confidential?

Yes absolutely. Confidentiality is vitally important in all sessions including individual, couples and group therapy. I am required to undergo clinical supervision in which I will discuss with my supervisor my work with my clients. My supervisor is obliged to keep all discussions confidential.

The only exceptions are if I become aware:

  • of any criminal activity when working with minors (under 18 years of age) .
  • of any risk of harm to the client and or other people.

I am obliged to report such activity to the relevant authorities.

When and where do groups meet?

Group therapy sessions are held in Waverley, fortnightly from 6.00 to 8.00 pm, on Tuesday and  Wednesday.
Practitioner groups are monthly 6.30 to 8.30 pm, currently held in Waverley and Neutral Bay.

How much do my services cost, and how is payment made?

I have different hourly rates for individual counselling and couples counselling. A set fee per group session is payable in advance. Different fees apply for Services for Practitioners

Feel free to email or ring me to let me know which services you are interested in and I’ll be glad to respond. Payment by cash or cheque, is required at the end of each session, or by arrangement payment may be made by funds transfer to my bank account.
